Trocaire College
Trocaire College (www.trocaire.edu), a private, career-oriented Catholic college in the traditions of The Sisters of Mercy, is accepting applications for the position of Director of Financial Aid. Reporting to the Dean of Enrollment Management, the new Director is an integral member of the enrollment team at Trocaire College and recommends strategies to increase enrollment efforts. The Director provides strong and decisive leadership to the Financial Aid department and expert guidance to the College on all matters related to Title IV aid and scholarships.
The Director of Financial Aid:
• Supervises the financial aid staff and is responsible for their performance review and professional development
• Prepares federal, state, and external reports as necessary, including FISAP and Program Participation Agreement, completes special conditions, appeals and waivers
• Develops systems to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the office and is responsible for compliance with state and federal regulations
• Develops, analyzes and interprets financial aid information for internal and external use
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree, master's degree recommended
• Minimum 5 years of experience working in Financial Aid
• At least 3 years working in a supervisory capacity
• Must excel at communication, maintain a student centric philosophy, and be culturally competent
Job Specific Competencies:
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student and public population
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
• Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information
• Ability to manage departmental operations to include but not limited to staff, strategic planning, budget, technology, etc.
• An understanding of student financial aid modeling and leveraging
• Ability to research, analyze data, and generate reports for internal and external purposes
• An understanding of non-residential commuter student population
• Thorough knowledge of state and local regulations pertaining to financial aid, scholarship awards, and student finance
Essential Job Functions:
Financial Aid Management:
• Manage and supervise all financial aid processes for awarding student loans, grants, and scholarship packages
• Develop student costs of attendance (individual student budgets) including tuition, books, fees, etc.
• Calculate refunds and repayments for students who withdraw from school
• Contribute to student satisfaction through delivery of quality customer service in all aspects of the administration of financial aid and student employment services
• Ensure that students are informed about their eligibility for financial aid by developing and directing a system for collecting and evaluating applications, and for the timely and effective awarding of all types of financial aid
Regulatory Compliance:
• Interpret and apply federal laws and regulations; college policies and regulations; and state regulations relating to the delivery of student financial assistance
• Ensure that the College has exception-free Financial Aid audits and program reviews by keeping abreast of and implementing all federal and state laws and regulations that pertain to the programs administered by the Financial Aid Office
• Maintain the College's Financial Aid data to assure timely and accurate submission of required federal, state, and local reports
• Develop and direct financial aid strategies within the framework of federal and state regulations that are consistent with the enrollment management objectives of the College and by administering financial aid, scholarships, and student employment programs that support student recruitment and retention
• Utilize and maintain the current Financial Aid module in the College's student information system (SIS). Ensure that the system is used effectively and that processes and product enhancements are developed which are technologically up-to-date and user/student friendly
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Oversee all administrative functions of the Financial Aid Office by supervising, providing ongoing professional development opportunities, and evaluating all full-time and part-time employees
• Maintain confidentiality of information exposed to during business regarding students, supervisors or other employees
• Require the kind of teamwork, supervision, and personal interaction, that cannot be had in a home office situation; therefore, regular and predictable on-site attendance is a job requirement
• Develop and monitor the Financial Aid Office budget including personnel needs and departmental operating expenses
• Other duties as assigned.
The College was founded in 1958 by the Sisters of Mercy as an institution to train women of the order. In 1965 the College admitted laywomen and in 1972 enrolled its first male students. In 1967 the College's name was officially changed to Trocaire, which is Gaelic for "mercy", to honor the heritage of the founding Sisters. The College is located in Buffalo, New York, and offers associate and bachelor's degree programs, as well as one-year certificate programs, and workforce development training in healthcare, business, hospitality, and technology. Trocaire College is home to the oldest, private Associate Degree in Nursing program in western New York. Trocaire has an extension site in Williamsville, New York and the total enrollment across both locations is more than 850 students.
