Position Description:
The Senior Financial Aid Officer provides campus support for both new and continuing students. This role not only
ensures that new students are prepared to start school and that all students have the necessary funding in place to
do so but that all continuing students are supported through graduation with financial aid support. This position will
oversee the day to day Financial Aid Department’s workload and staff.
In addition, the Senior Financial Aid Officer is responsible for higher level processes within Financial Aid such as
serving as the VA Certifying Official for the campus, assisting with training and mentoring Financial Aid Officers and
other duties as applicable and assigned.
The Financial Aid Officer is responsible for providing excellent customer service to prospective and active students
and must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. Being detailed oriented with strong follow-up skills and a
desire to work with and communicate in a friendly and compassionate manner in addition to being flexible and
adaptable to change is pivotal to the success in this position. Regular and reliable attendance is required. This is an
on-site position.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Primary responsibility is to ensure that students are fully packaged and prepared to start school and that all
students are fully packaged for each academic year as they continue school.
Support students through initial and ongoing student contact, ensuring financial aid and other sources of
aid is secured, and making certain all required documents are submitted accurately and timely.
Calculates and initiates student financial aid offers, and retail installment plans to help each student cover
the cost of education.
Provides the best possible experience for students during every interaction by displaying compassion,
composure, and offering compelling reasons to complete the next steps within proper time frames.
Recognizes hidden issues and offers creative solutions to assist students in addressing barriers to starting or
continuing school.
Ensures all processing related to students’ financial aid are administered accurately and timely and in
compliance with state and federal regulations.
Navigates students through the financial aid process by clarifying process steps, reviewing where they are in
the overall process.
Oversee the staff within the Financial Aid Department for the day to day operations and administrative
items such as Time and Attendance. Provide technical support to the staff within the department
Act as liaison with management for the department
Educates students on federal aid borrower’s rights and responsibilities, FAFSA completion, loan status,
alternative funding options that help resolve financing issues.
Works proactively with campus teams to support the needs of students and improve student and
operational outcomes.
Executes the appropriate strategy and ensures that all students receive the proper follow up and achieve
the appropriate milestones in the financial aid process
Provides training and mentoring of new staff and existing staff on new processes/refresher training
Manages an assigned workload of students through a variety of tools and processes.
Requires a proficient knowledge of standards and processes for financial aid and customer service in an
educational setting
Collects student monthly payments and registration payments
Participate in assigned training and meetings
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Education: Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent required. BA Degree preferred
Required Experience: A minimum of 4 years’ experience in Financial Aid within the education environment.
Minimum of two years leadership position
Required: May not be in default on federal student loan or owe repayment of a federal grant.
Required: This is an on-site position.
Experience: NASFAA Certifications a plus. Knowledge of financial aid programs, need analysis, policies and
procedures and automated student information systems. Experience with proprietary institutions preferred. Must
possess strong customer service skills and be detailed oriented. Must be able to perform work with high levels of
accuracy and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. Must qualify to
work in the NSDLS database and maintain eligibility as is an essential function for this position. Must demonstrate
high level of integrity, professional ethics and confidentiality in all interactions.
