Founded in 1883, the University of Sioux Falls is a Christian, liberal arts university affiliated with the American Baptist Churches, U.S.A., with a total headcount as of Fall 2014 of 1,419, including undergraduate and graduate students. USF is inclusive of all denominations with dozens represented on campus. Our mission is to foster academic excellence and the development of mature Christian persons for service to God and humankind in the world. Our motto is Culture for Service. We strive to nurture our students’ relationships with God and to build their characters. We offer more than 80 undergraduate programs and the following graduate and adult-learning programs that are offered on campus or online: Accelerated Nursing, Degree Completion Program, Education Specialist, Master of Business Administration, Master of Education and RN-to-BSN.
The University is a member of both the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities and the Council of Independent Colleges. USF is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. USF is also accredited by the following: South Dakota Division of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). USF is a member of the NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Athletic Conference (NSIC).
Conveniently located at the junction of Interstates 90 and 29 on the banks of the Big Sioux River, Sioux Falls is South Dakota’s largest city with a population of 166,700 (MSA population is 232,879). Sioux Falls is within a day’s drive of most major Midwestern cities.
Sioux Falls is an attractive, progressive community and is one of the fastest growing financial centers in the nation. There are excellent public and private schools, a symphony orchestra, a community playhouse, and a wealth of art and cultural opportunities. There are three major hospitals, more than 70 public parks with soccer, softball, and baseball fields, swimming pools, and an extensive bike trail system. Sioux Falls enjoys a low crime rate, low unemployment, no state or local income tax, and many nearby opportunities for camping, boating, fishing, hunting, and other year-round recreational activities.
