- Assistant Vice President of Financial Aid
Description

The University of Toledo seeks a strategic, collaborative, and forward-thinking Assistant Vice President of Financial Aid (AVP) to serve as its next chief financial aid administrator. Reporting to the Vice President for Strategic Enrollment Management, Tony Bourne, the AVP will play a central role in shaping and executing financial aid strategy in support of the University's enrollment, retention, and student success goals, while overseeing a complex portfolio exceeding $250 million in aid. A complete leadership profile can be found here.
The AVP will join a high-functioning, collaborative community that is energized by the opportunity to rethink established practices, strengthen operations, and introduce new ideas. The institution is seeking a leader who embraces change, operates with agility, and contributes thought leadership within an environment that values input, creativity, and bold thinking.
The AVP will provide strategic and operational oversight for financial aid, scholarships, enrollment operations, and Rocket Solution Central, ensuring effective service delivery across a large, fully in-person organization with varying levels of staff experience. A key priority will be strengthening communication, culture, and alignment across teams, while building leadership capacity and advancing succession planning in anticipation of upcoming retirements. The successful candidate will bring the ability to articulate a clear vision, foster a positive and accountable team environment, and lead through influence in a unionized, public university setting.
Financial aid strategy at Toledo is deeply tied to institutional mission and access. As a university committed to serving students, Toledo provides a pathway to meaningful social and economic mobility. The AVP will be expected to leverage financial aid as a strategic enrollment tool, optimizing scholarship utilization, improving collaboration with the University Foundation, and ensuring alignment between aid awarding practices and institutional priorities. This includes navigating evolving state and federal policy landscapes, including borrowing limits and recent legislative changes impacting financial aid and scholarship administration.
Success in this role will require deep regulatory expertise and strong analytical judgment, particularly in interpreting complex federal, state, and institutional policies and translating them into clear guidance for staff and partners. The AVP also serves as the University's primary liaison to federal and state agencies, ensuring compliance while maintaining a student-centered, service-oriented approach.
Equally important is the ability to build strong relationships across campus and beyond. A visible, engaged leader who values partnership and open communication will thrive in Toledo's culture, where colleagues are deeply committed to one another and to student success.
The ideal candidate will bring significant financial aid and enrollment management experience within a public or similarly complex institution, along with a track record of leading teams through change, improving processes, and driving strategic impact. This individual will be an innovative thinker, an effective communicator, and a collaborative leader. They will be someone motivated by the opportunity to shape the future of financial aid at a mission-driven institution with a strong sense of community and purpose.
